Saving lives by sewing masks
During the pandemic, more than 400 individuals, businesses and community organizations have contributed cash or in-kind gifts toward Emanate Health’s COVID-19 relief.
One of them is LeeAnne Brennan, a retired resident, who sewed 700 masks at home to help protect the health care workers of Emanate Health’s three hospitals and hospice.
“I have been a seamstress all my life and this is something I could easily do to help during this challenging time,” said Mrs. Brennan. “This has been an amazing blessing to me and has kept me motivated while my husband and I have had to stay at home.”
Mrs. Brennan and her husband have lived in Glendora for 52 years and have always used Foothill Presbyterian Hospital for their family’s needs. Mr. Brennan was also a heart patient at Inter-Community Hospital in 2019. Their church, Glenkirk Church in Glendora, had asked for masks to be donated, so Mrs. Brennan decided to help.
She has sewn over 4,000 masks for hospitals, senior facilities, hospices, rehabilitation centers, a Native American reservation, Department of Social Services, as well as family and friends. Mrs. Brennan has received numerous cards, letters and e-mails of appreciation from the recipients and is grateful for the opportunity to benefit others in this small way.
“Those of us who sew masks say, ‘Your life is worth my time,’” she said. “That says it all.”
