COVINA, Calif. – Emanate Health CEO Robert H. Curry, who oversees the largest health care system in the San Gabriel Valley, has been named by the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) to the 2021 LA500 List recognizing the most influential leaders in Los Angeles. Curry, who has served in his current role at Emanate Health for 13 years, was named for a third time to the list, which features the most dynamic leaders who are "driving innovation, creativity, community and industry," said LABJ. He is one of 28 leaders from local health care systems to be included.
"The 2021 class of the LA500 was faced with challenges over the past year that many may never have to address again — at least not to the same extent. It was a year of difficulty, tragedy, optimism and achievement. It was a year of growth, in so many ways, for our leaders, our communities and our nation," said LABJ Publisher & CEO Josh Schimmels.
Curry's citation in the LA500 edition credits him with guiding current expansion projects at Queen of the Valley Hospital (QVH) and Inter-Community Hospital (ICH). This includes expansion of a new 60-bed emergency department and a 24-bed intensive care unit at QVH, and a new catheterization laboratory and front lobby renovation at ICH. It also notes that QVH received a Primary Plus Stroke Center certification for treatment of serious strokes late last year. In 2021, QVH received its Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from Los Angeles Emergency Medical Services.
"Under Rob's leadership, Emanate Health has financially and clinically weathered the challenges created by the pandemic and today, we're a stronger and more nimble health care system because of it," said Gary Mathewson, Chair, Emanate Health Board of Directors. "With lessons learned from the last 14 months, we know that patients want more health care options and flexible choices, and under Rob's guidance, we intend to deliver on the needs of our patients."
Curry has held executive positions with hospital systems in Arizona, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and joined Emanate Health from O'Connor Hospital in San Jose. Curry is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been involved with several philanthropic organizations including the American Heart Association, United Way and the YMCA.
"I'm truly humbled to be mentioned with some of the leading corporate and business leaders in the region," Curry said. "To me, this award says a lot more about the doctors, nurses and staff who are the backbone of Emanate Health and live our mission and values every day—especially during a global pandemic. I'm proud to say that their hard work and commitment has led to Emanate Health's success and achievements, and I'm very thankful for that."
Curry holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master's in Public Health Administration, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
